2007 Scholarships

Attention Band/Music Students - Grades 9—12

The North Suburban Concert Band (NSCB) traditionally offers two scholarships each year to deserving students in a music program playing a wind or percussion instrument. This year, in celebration of the band’s 25th Anniversary, there will be three scholarships offered.

The scholarships are $600.00 each. One scholarship will be for students in grades 9-11 for the purpose of helping to fund the costs for such things as music camps, youth music organizations or private lessons. The second scholarship is designated for graduating seniors to continue their pursuit of music. The special third scholarship will be offered to the most deserving student, 9th – 12th grade, for the same use.

To be eligible, students must reside in the following school districts:

     Anoka-Hennepin District 11
     Centennial District 12
     Fridley District 14
     St. Francis District 15
     Spring Lake Park District 16
     Osseo District 279
     Elk River District 728
    Moundsview District 621

To be considered for a scholarship, the student must:

  • complete the application form
  • include a good quality recording - on cassette tape or CD - of the student performing a solo audition piece (accompanied or unaccompanied).  The selection must be of Minnesota State High School League Solo and Ensemble Contest quality
  • include a photocopy of the sheet music with the recording (to be destroyed after judging)
  • include a letter telling us of his or her educational goals and musical objectives. This letter should also include a list of past musical accomplishments, groups they belong to, and any teachers with whom they have studied.
  • send all of these materials to the NSCB address on the application form so that they are received by March 31, 2007.

Awardees will be notified by April 15, 2007. The awards ceremony will take place during the 2007 NSCB Pops Concert to be held at 3pm on Sunday, April 22, 2006 at the Courtyards of Andover, located at 13545 Martin Street NE in Andover (near the intersection of Hanson Blvd and Bunker Lake Blvd).  It is our expectation that scholarship recipients will be present at the concert. Concert tickets will be provided for each winner and his or her immediate family.
